marvel finally cancels toxic "world saving" narratives, pivots to ambient nervous system regulation

tw: mentions of "hard work", "saving the universe", "conflict"

hey besties. i am literally shaking and crying right now because we finally have a win for our nervous systems. for years, the marvel cinematic universe has been normalizing toxic productivity. like, expecting a group of deeply traumatized individuals (the avengers) to just "save the world" without giving them time to process their lived experiences? it's giving late-stage capitalism. it's giving the same energy as my landlord asking for rent when the economy is so blatantly toxic.

but today, kevin feige finally did the bare minimum and apologized for the literal violence of action sequences. at a press event, he announced that the upcoming avengers movie is being scrapped. instead, the next phase will be entirely focused on boundary setting and somatic healing.

the new film, titled 'avengers: holding space', is just tom holland and mark ruffalo sitting in a dimly lit room doing box breathing for three hours. there are no "villains" because labeling people as bad guys is just a projection of unhealed shadow work and honestly very problematic. instead, thanos will return, but he just sits in a circle with the core cast and unpacks his cosmic scarcity mindset.

honestly, seeing billionaires fight aliens was so triggering for my economic anxiety. the economy is a nightmare right now, and just thinking about iron man's net worth makes me need my emotional support weighted blanket (which you can totally find in my amazon storefront btw, it's the chunky knit one that feels like being perceived by a non-judgmental aura).

kevin also noted that none of the actors were forced to memorize lines, because memorization is a construct akin to "hard work" (major yikes). instead, they just vibe, sip organic oat milk lattes, and occasionally affirm each other's valid feelings. if any actor felt overwhelmed, they were allowed to pause filming and cancel their contracts via text, which is incredibly brave considering sending an email is literal violence.

i'm just so glad cinema is finally evolving. i'm going to go completely detach from physical reality now because writing this article drained my social battery for the next three to five business days. remember to prioritize your peace, unlearn the urge to "be a hero," and buy my favorite sage bundles (again, link in bio).

So they're ditching the action and replacing it with... mindfulness? This is going to bomb harder than Netflix's 'The Midnight Club'. People want explosions, not oat milk lattes.

OMG! THIS IS EVERYTHING!!! 🙌🏼 Finally a movie that gets it! We need to focus on healing and emotional regulation, not toxic masculinity and violence. Sending good vibes to the cast for their somatic journey!

Wait, so Thanos is just going to 'unpack his scarcity mindset'? What happened to snapping half of existence out of reality? This feels like a PR stunt more than anything else.

This is exactly why I stopped watching Marvel movies. All talk, no action. Give me another Halo or God of War any day.

Remember when superhero movies were actually about heroism? Now it's all about self-care and cosmic therapy sessions. Where's the excitement?

About time Marvel acknowledged the problematic nature of their violence and 'save the world' narrative. We need more representation of diverse experiences, not just white dudes in capes!

Can I afford this emotionally draining therapy session disguised as a movie? Probably not. Guess I'll just watch another season of 'Stranger Things'.

This is an interesting gamble by Marvel. They're banking on the wellness trend, but it might alienate their core audience. Only time will tell if this new direction pays off.

Sounds like a fascinating premise! I'm curious to see how they explore the complexities of trauma and healing in a superhero context. Maybe this will be a refreshing take on the genre.

Thanos just chilling with an aura cleanse? I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry. This is peak Marvel absurdity.
