a24's new 'godfather' is literally just vibes and it's an attack on my nervous system

like, i'm just trying to regulate my cortisol and heal my inner child, and now daniel katz wants me to download a 72-hour silent film about sad italian men? this is my villain origin story.

a24's new 'godfather' is literally just vibes and it's an attack on my nervous system

i am literally so tired. i woke up this morning, did my gratitude journaling, tried to regulate my nervous system, and then i opened my phone and was immediately assaulted by the bad-vibe news that a24 is 'reimagining' *the godfather*. and like, when they say reimagining, they don't mean a movie. no, that would be too simple, too respectful of my limited emotional bandwidth.

instead, they're releasing a 72-hour 'immersive sensory experience' for their new premium app, a24+. according to their press release, which i had to read as an act of self-harm, this is not a film but a 'post-narrative affective journey.' there's no dialogue. no plot. no characters. it's just… vibes. seriously. it's three full days of ai-generated ambient soundscapes, color palettes derived from 'emotionally-scanned sicilian linen,' and haptic feedback patterns you can feel through your phone that are meant to simulate 'intergenerational patriarchal trauma' without, you know, being triggering.

a24 founder daniel katz called it a 'brave deconstruction of cinematic legacy for a generation that experiences narrative somatically.' which is literally just corporate-speak for 'we're going to charge you $29.99 a month to feel vaguely sad in a way that feels aesthetic.' it's the emotional equivalent of a beige couch. it's violence.

the emotional labor of even having to process this is exhausting. my entire system is dysregulated. i was supposed to be a person, but late-stage capitalism has decided i am a content receptacle and a consumer of curated sadness. resisting this energy is a full-time job with no pto. the only way to fight back is through radical acts of self-preservation, like creating a safe space in my tiny, overpriced apartment.

i can't fix the toxic economy, but i can create a sanctuary from it. i recently found this ridiculously soft weighted blanket that feels like a hug from a non-problematic source, and it's honestly been a system-saver. it's on my amazon storefront if you're also feeling personally victimized by a prestige indie studio. link in bio.

anyway, i'm dissociating just thinking about this. i need to go ground myself and try to forget that the one studio i trusted to have good vibes is now trying to monetize the feeling of dread. brb, logging off forever (for like, an hour).

Sounds lit! Gonna be the first one to experience all 72 hours of 'intergenerational patriarchal trauma' on my new VR headset. Can't wait to share my deep dive analysis with the fam on my podcast.

This is ridiculous! Where are the actual movies? My son just wants to watch something with a plot and some action. Instead, they're trying to sell us feelings. What happened to entertainment?

I bet this 'vibes experience' is just a bunch of ASMR rain sounds and sad piano music. They know we're all already deeply depressed, so they're just milking it. Capitalism at its finest.

Honestly, I respect the artistic ambition here. This isn't for everyone, but I'm intrigued by the idea of a truly immersive cinematic experience that goes beyond traditional storytelling.

This is the future! Imagine owning a piece of this 'sensory journey' as an NFT. You could even experience it in the metaverse with your friends. Game changer!

Is this app gonna eat up my data? What if my phone can't handle all these 'emotionally-scanned sicilian linen' color palettes? My inbox is already overflowing with requests for tech support. Please, just give me a normal movie.

This sounds like exactly what I need! A 72-hour break from the constant noise of the world. I'm adding it to my wellness routine right away. Gotta prioritize emotional balance.

Back in my day, we just watched movies! We didn't need all this fancy 'emotional technology.' This is just a bunch of hippie nonsense.

This is groundbreaking! A truly innovative approach to storytelling. I can't wait to see how this pushes the boundaries of cinema and explore new ways to engage with audiences.

I bet this is just a way for a24 to collect your data and sell it to advertisers. They're pretending to be artistic but they're really just trying to make money off our emotions.
